Abstract
We report on development of graphite-based, diamagnetically levitated platforms optimized in terms of both the diamagnetic lifting force and the minimized mechanical loss arising from bulk eddy currents. In addition to surface insulation of graphite particles by silica coating as reported (Tian et al., Applied Physics Letters, 2024, 124, 124,002), the particles are made to be oriented in a common direction. The direction of alignment is tailored according to the profile of the magnetic field used for diamagnetic levitation by applying either a rotating or a stationary magnetic field to viscosity-tuned slurry containing the insulated graphite particles before drying up into a solid plate. The low-loss and lift-force-optimized levitated platforms open the door to various sensing applications and will find diverse interest.
