ABSTRACT
Fiber batteries have stimulated significant research interests in recent years, among the communities of energy storage, smart textiles, wearable electronics, biomedical sensing, and even soft robotics, primarily due to their high pliability to curved or irregular surfaces in various use scenarios. However, despite the numerous reports emerging, their widespread adoption in industry or in military applications are still far-fetched. This review focuses on two key obstacles that hinder their fruition in the real world, namely poor encapsulation and questionable modeling. We also call for input from the packaging industry and electrochemical modeling community to further this nascent yet exciting technology.
