ABSTRACT
A new code for calculating committed effective dose coefficients has been required to incorporate up-to-date knowledge of radiation protection in the ICRP 2007 Recommendations into Japanese regulatory standards for internal exposure. Additionally, a tool is also needed to estimate intakes based on individual monitoring results in accordance with the Recommendations both for routine monitoring and in cases of accidental radionuclide incorporation. The Internal Dose Calculation Code (IDCC) was developed in Java 8 with a graphical user interface (GUI) to compute dose coefficients with the procedures in line with ICRP Publications concerning dosimetric models and data for occupational intakes of radionuclides and to estimate intakes from individual monitoring data using a maximum likelihood method with singular value decomposition. Calculated dose coefficients agreed within a relative difference of 10% of the occupational intakes of radionuclides (OIR) Data Viewer (version 5.27.9.21) values and a previous study for all tested intake conditions, including those with half-lives shorter than 10 min. Intake estimation results matched published case studies within 1% across diverse monitoring scenarios. The two functions of IDCC were successfully validated. IDCC reliably computes committed effective dose coefficients and performs intake estimation for occupational intakes of radionuclides in full compliance with ICRP 2007 Recommendations.
