NASAの小惑星探査機「Psyche」は、金属に富む小惑星16 Psycheを目指す航行中に、搭載カメラの校正を兼ねて地球と月の撮影に成功した。撮影は2025年7月20日と23日に行われ、10秒露光により宇宙空間に輝く地球と月が点状に捉えられた。探査機の撮像装置は2基の同一カメラで構成され、異なる波長観測を可能とし、天体の組成や表面特性を明らかにする設計となっている。今回の撮影は、2029年に予定される小惑星到達に向けた重要な準備段階であり、機器性能の検証と今後の観測基準確立に寄与する。地球と月を遠方から「見返す」姿は、宇宙探査の進展を象徴する成果ともなった。
