Abstract
The Second SWEET EDGE Renewable Energy Outlook explores Switzerland’s energy transition toward net-zero emissions in 2050, focusing on its interactions with the European energy system. It examines the impact of three key national energy policies on Switzerland’s electricity mix, dispatch, supply costs, and cross-border electricity exchanges, comparing results from four different electricity system models. The analysis is further refined by assessing the regional effects of improved weather forecasts on demand and supply balancing. Adding to the electricity sector perspective, the Outlook evaluates the macroeconomic implications of national and international energy and climate policies and examines how policy preferences and technology acceptance in Switzerland have evolved from 2022 to 2024. Finally, it contextualizes Switzerland’s role within the broader European energy landscape by analyzing the Swiss cross-border renewable energy investments.
